WINNING BRONX CHESS TEAM RECOGNIZED BY NEW YORK STATE ASSEMBLY AND SENATE
(NEW YORK) – On Wednesday, June 4, students from the Rosalyn Yalow Charter School in the Bronx were honored by the New York State Assembly and Senate in Albany for their victories at this year’s New York State Scholastic Chess Championships. In March, the student competitors took first place in two team divisions, and 4th-grader Samuel Lin won the first place prize for K-5 Under 1,000.

The students traveled to Albany to meet with David Frank, Assistant Education Commissioner; Assemblywoman Amanda Septimo; and Senator Jose Serrano, who issued a proclamation honoring the students for their victories. The visit included a tour of the State Capitol, lunch on Empire State Plaza, and a formal ceremony issuing the proclamation.
“I’m proud of myself, the team, and our coaches. We worked as a team, and the coaches helped us achieve our goal at the NYS Scholastic Chess Championships,” said Favor T., a 5th-grade competitor. “I liked visiting the Capitol because we got to meet the people who pass laws for schools and housing and help us shape our future.”
