Charter schools forced to spend $118 million on rent in
private buildings
(New York, NY, November 17, 2014) –A civics class will be held outside tomorrow, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 10:30 am at Bowling Green, Lower Manhattan to dramatize the challenges of the more than 49,000 children whose charter schools receive no public funding for their facilities and must divert millions of dollars to pay rent. This money could be spent on teachers, guidance counselors, computers, afterschool programs and more. Hosted by the New York City Charter School Center and Northeast Charter Schools Network, in conjunction with the NYC Coalition of Community Schools, this event calls on state leaders to ensure all public schools are receiving equal facility funding.
