THE COLLABORATIVE FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION HOSTS ANNUAL MULTI-DAY EDUCATION CONFERENCE: ‘BREAKING BARRIERS’
Educators Gather In-Person and Virtually to Learn and Explore Ways to Promote Equity and Inclusion for Historically Underserved Students
(New York, NY) – This week, from May 23-25, the Collaborative for Inclusive Education, an initiative of the New York City Charter School Center, kicked off its Annual Education Conference: ‘Breaking Barriers’, bringing together educators from across the City to learn and explore ways to promote equity and inclusion for historically underserved students.

“Access and inclusion aren’t just buzz words – they’re central to the growth and success of New York City students. This is an incredibly pressing issue for educators, and this event gives us a chance to address ways we can make a real difference in our students’ lives,” said Melissa Katz, Vice President, Collaborative for Inclusive Education. “We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to bring educators together so we can learn from both experts in the field and each other, as well as take action to promote equity and inclusion for all students in classrooms across the City.”
The Annual Education Conference will feature keynote addresses from Dr. Phyllis Pajardo, superintendent for City of Fairfax Schools in Virginia, one of the nation’s largest school districts, Dr. Angel Acosta who focuses on healing-centered education as a framework for educational leadership development and community care, and Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, an award-winning Associate Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University.
