NYC CHARTER SCHOOL CENTER CEO JAMES MERRIMAN STATEMENT
ON GOVERNOR CUOMO’S 2014 EXECUTIVE BUDGET
(New York, NY) Please attribute the following statement to New York City Charter School Center CEO James Merriman:
“Governor Cuomo has yet again demonstrated his continued leadership on public education and his dedication to helping increase achievement for all our students.
“His proposed budget makes clear that public charters are a key component of the state’s effort to boost these efforts. His proposal to allow charters to offer pre-kindergarten for students for the first time is a milestone for the sector and a positive development for the state; charters already have a strong track record of educating students in the early grades.
“We are also glad to see the lifting of the freeze on charter funding. This would help level the playing field between district and charter schools and allow for a future statewide discussion around facilities funding parity. ”
