NYC CHARTER SCHOOLS SEE SIGNIFICANT ENROLLMENT GROWTH DESPITE PANDEMIC

Public Charters See 7% – Nearly 10,000 Student – Overall Enrollment Growth;
English Language Learners Grow By 16%

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – Following the release of new school enrollment data from the New York State Education Department, the New York City Charter School Center today announced that the City’s 267 public charter schools saw significant enrollment growth despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, New York City public charter schools saw a 7% enrollment growth (nearly 10,000 students) across the board, continuing a five-year trend.

Enrollment increased in all subgroups with a notable 16% increase in enrollment of English Language Learners (multi-lingual learners) – demonstrating the strong, inter-borough support for charter schools, and a recognition of the sector’s commitment to providing quality education for all students.
