NEW YORK CITY CHARTER SCHOOL CENTER CEO JAMES MERRIMAN STATEMENT ON MAYOR DE BLASIO’S REMARKS ON CHARTERS DURING BUDGET TESTIMONY IN ALBANY

(New York, NY) – Today, Mayor de Blasio testified in Albany on Governor Cuomo’s executive budget. In his testimony, the Mayor spoke out against lifting the charter cap and providing more equitable funding for public charter schools.

Please attribute the following statement to James Merriman, CEO of the New York City Charter School Center:

“It’s deeply disappointing, this many years in, that a mayor who says he is devoted to equity and excellence still treats charter students and families as second class citizens in their own city. Maybe when charter school students have the political power of the UFT, things will finally change.”
