Two Million and Counting

That’s how many students have enrolled in public charter schools nationwide, according to a new report from the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. In 41 states and the District of Columbia, parents and educators have come together, voluntarily, seeking a high-quality public education.

After last week’s elections, more families in Washington State and Georgia will have that option too.

Some say the parents of these two million children parents are suckers who shouldn’t be trusted with this choice. Some say they’re schemers who are too impatient with the traditional system.

I say they aren’t suckers and they aren’t schemers. They—we—are moms and dads, grandparents and guardians, who want the chance to find a public school that works for their child.

We’re choosing by the millions, and we aren’t going to stop.
