Charters Call for Real Leadership on Co-Location

Prior to yesterday’s mayoral debate on education, leaders representing 47 charter schools and three support organizations issued the following statement:

STATEMENT ON PUBLIC SCHOOL CO-LOCATION AND THE MAYORAL ELECTION

As the mayoral candidates gather to discuss education policy, we call on Bill de Blasio, William Thompson, and John Liu to set aside the call for a moratorium on co-locations and show the kind of thoughtful leadership New York City needs. Co-location allows for smaller schools, both district and charter, providing additional choices for families. And while there is certainly room for improvement, the answer isn’t simply to end a policy that has benefited hundreds of thousands of public school students. It’s time for our candidates to elevate the debate on this critical topic. Principals, teachers, parents, and most importantly children, are counting on it.
