Creating a charter school often starts as an exhilarating project, filled with breakthrough curriculum ideas, ways to serve families where there are low-performing schools, and visions of better futures for children through superlative education.
The glittering ideal, however, meets an imposing reality, in the form of the charter school application. Practical and technical issues abound: whom will you choose as your authorizer? What will your backfilling plan be? To a new team applying for a charter, the challenge to complete a viable application can be daunting.
As part of the Charter School Center’s commitment to supporting excellence in NYC charter schools, the Apply Right Program was created to help teams through the application process. Chartering has changed significantly over the past few years and the field is now highly competitive. In the Apply Right Program, the Charter Center works with teams to give them a thorough introduction to crucial aspects of school design and the application process.
For those interested in learning about the Apply Right Program, there will be Open Houses held on Tuesday, August 14, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Wednesday, August 15, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, at the Charter School Center. The NYC Charter School Center is located at 111 Broadway, between Pine and Thames, Suite 604.
