Families are encouraged to submit their applications before the window closes on April 1, 2027.

The 2027-28 student recruitment season is already well underway, with hundreds of open house events offered by campuses in all five boroughs. The Charter Center’s Charter School Open House Calendar serves as a centralized list of these dates, times, and locations to help families visit and learn more.

“New York City students deserve to have choices in public education. Our goal is to make it as simple as possible for families to research and apply to public charter schools, so they can find the school that best meets their child’s needs and interests,” said James Merriman, Chief Executive Officer of the New York City Charter School Center. “The Common Online Charter School Application enables families across all five boroughs to explore hundreds of different public charter schools with one convenient tool.”
