STATEMENT FROM NYC CHARTER SCHOOL CENTER CEO JAMES MERRIMAN ON 2017 NEW YORK STATE BUDGET

(New York, NY) Please credit the following statement to James Merriman, CEO of the New York City Charter School Center:

“This budget agreement was hard fought and we deeply appreciate the tenacious commitment of Governor Cuomo, Majority Leader Flanagan and Coalition Leader Klein to treat public charter school students fairly. Under their leadership, rental assistance for new and expanding New York City charter schools will increase, translating into more high-quality schools being opened to meet the ever growing demand from families. This budget also reconnects charter school funding increases to increases in district school spending, bringing us closer to funding parity in future years. We look forward to continuing to work with them and the entire legislature during the rest of the session to ensure that all students in New York State have the resources and conditions to succeed.”
