The Charter Center hosts a Charter School Test Scoring Consortium committed to overseeing the scoring of constructed responses in statewide English Language Arts and Mathematics exams for Grades 3-8. Beginning in 2024, the Consortium will expand its efforts to coordinate the scoring of constructed responses in statewide Science exams for Grades 5 and 8.
In Spring 2024, all students in Grades 5 and 8 will be required to take ELA, Mathematics, and Science tests via computer-based testing (CBT). While schools can opt for CBT for other grades, paper-based testing (PBT) remains available as an option for all other grades.
We utilize an electronic scoring program that:
- Efficiently enables charter schools to meet the truncated timeline for submitting test scores to NYC Department of Education and NY State Education Department.
- Guarantees that the tests are completely randomized and that teachers conduct true “blind scoring” (e.g., makes it difficult for them to identify the students and/or the schools whose tests they are scoring). This helps to increase the validity and reliability of the test results.
ELIGIBILITY
NYC charter schools that conduct New York State Elementary and Intermediate tests (Grades 3 through 8) are eligible to participate. The Test Scoring Consortium will manage the coordination of scoring for (CBT) and the scoring and pick-up of paper-based testing (PBT) exams.
