NEW YORK CITY CHARTER SCHOOL CENTER CEO JAMES MERRIMAN STATEMENT ON THE UFT’S POLITICAL POSTURING

“Charter schools are serving a full range of special population students, and each year they continue to expand their programs to serve more. In fact, look no further than the numbers the UFT released today,” said James Merriman, CEO of the New York City Charter School Center.

“This is a classic case of pre-session political maneuvering. Michael Mulgrew knows full well that the legislature has already passed legislation that ensures that charter schools remain focused on the recruitment and retention of ELL, special needs and underserved students, through targets established by law in 2010. The charter sector remains committed to serving, and improving public education, for all students.”
