NEW YORK CITY CHARTER SCHOOL CENTER CEO JAMES MERRIMAN STATEMENT ON TODAY’S INDEPENDENT BUDGET OFFICE REPORT

(New York, NY) – Please attribute the following statement to James Merriman, CEO of the New York City Charter School Center:

“The IBO’s report confirms what we’ve been saying for years – public charter schools receive less public support than district schools. While the UFT has found this acceptable, it is patently unfair to value charter school children as less deserving than their district counterparts. We encourage New York’s elected officials to support Governor Cuomo’s proposed budget; although it will not get us to full parity, as the IBO also points out, it certainly is a move in the right direction.”
