Reps from Over 100 Charter Campuses – from Brooklyn, Queens and Lower Manhattan – to Advise Families on Applying to the Charter of their Choice

(Brooklyn, NY) – This Saturday, March 5, the New York City Charter School Center in conjunction with Williamsburg Charter High School, will host its 4th annual Charter School Fair for New York City parents. The fair rounds out the charter school application season for the 2016-17 school year as the deadline approaches on April 1.

Council Member Rafael Espinal is expected to attend this year’s event with over 800 families. For the first time, educators from 50 charter school networks and independent schools, representing just over 100 school campuses throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Lower Manhattan, will be on hand to discuss their school offerings with prospective students and their parents.

Free and open to all NYC families, attendees will be able to apply in person with school representatives or online to multiple charters across the city using the Common Online Charter School Application available in 10 languages. About NYC’s Charter Schools
Charter schools are free, independently run public schools that are able to innovate in their classroom structures, curriculum, and teaching methods. In return, they’re held to higher standards of accountability. More than 90 percent of the City’s charter school students are African-American or Latino, and over 70 percent are from low-income families. There are 205 public charter schools serving over 95,000 students in all five boroughs for the 2015-2016 school year.
