The New York City Charter School Center works with pre-authorized and post-authorized teams from the time they begin exploring the charter school option; through assembling a planning team; to writing the charter application and getting the school up and running. We help founders and board members concentrate on achieving their goal of building a solid, sustainable public school that serves all children of New York City through our training and support services.
Services for pre-authorized planning teams include:
- Pre-authorized grants of up to $35,000
- Trainings and workshops in Application Writing, Leadership, Academic Design, Governance, and Operations and Management
- Mock interviewing to prepare for authorizers’ meetings
- One-on-one consultations to address specific needs pertaining to the development of a proposed school’s blueprint
- Clarification and support during the authorizing process
- Tours of model charter schools
- Access to the Charter Center’s library and exemplary applications
Services for post-authorized planning teams include:
- Post-authorization grants of up to $50,000
- Office space from October to August for incubating teams
- Trainings and workshops in Leadership, Academic Design, Governance, and Operations and Management
- One-on-one consultation to address specific needs related to the development of a proposed school’s blueprint
- Advocacy support and planning
